![]() When asked to give up his allotted tickets when they were on tour for some corporate guys he refused. He loved root beer, he had a black 2000 Trans AM, that car had everything possible on it and was cool. He did play guitar live on stage with Alice In Chains and Mad Season. If you ever find the interview of them telling the story it’s worth a watch. The first time Layne ever met Jerry Cantrell was at a friends party and when he found out Jerry was homeless he took him home that night and let him stay in what they both called a room that smelled of old piss. Layne also didn’t manage the Music Bank he just worked there and they let him live in a rehearsal space. ![]() They did change the name slightly but, it hadn’t anything to do with Guns N Roses. Layne said when he heard these guys sing he said fuck it I’m in. Jerry and the guys decided to audition lead singers and ask Layne to come to the try outs and help them choose the best one, the only thing was they had found the worst of the worst on purpose. He did fill in on vocals for Jerry’s band in the beginning and they did everything to get him to become their lead singer but, he wasn’t ready to leave his band. Jerry Cantrell played in Diamond Lie in the beginning and Layne Staley’s band was actually “Alice N’Chainz”. I love that you all appreciate Alice In Chains music and I mean all of their music just not the radio hits. I’ve just recently come across this site and I’ve read everything everyone has written. Kent R Franklin from FredricktownMiss em!.He also adlibed the screams on the intro to Them Bones, & contributed on a riff in God Am, which he also wrote the lyrics to. It was also his idea to hit a bong before God Am, the only time his studio engineer ever seen him do drugs. He actually wrote the lyrics to 31(~60%) songs for AiC, including all but three songs on Self Titled/Tripod. He also wrote the music & lyrics to Head Creeps. Kenny from TulsaLayne did in fact write the music and lyrics to Angry Chair, & Hate to Feel on Dirt, and played them live up through 93, can confirm on YouTube.Popeyeguy from Franklin, wisconsinSure do miss Layne Staleys unique vocals, never did get a chance to see them live.May he be surrounded by peace, love, and light. But I will also correct anything I read about him, that is BS. I will forever miss and think about, and be incredibly sad that Layne had to leave us. I now have a pacemaker-defibrillator implanted in my chest. I am by no means an expert on death, I’m just sharing my experience. He doesn’t miss Demri anymore, or anyone/anything for that matter. If it’s the same for everyone, he is for sure at peace, with no more pain, no sadness, just silence and complete and total contentment and peace. I had to have CPR, and got shocked with defibrillators, to come back. I have been there with my illness, and literally died 2 times. I choose to believe that his heart just couldn’t work anymore. ![]() I am 5’1” and was down to 89 pounds due to an immune-system disease. My heart will always be shattered by his death. I just wanted them for the pictures, but I decided I didn’t want to support what he was so against. I believe once they heard how pissed off he was about it, and that he didn’t want anything to do with it, they stepped out and stopped contributing. Actually Nancy and his sister DID initially participate in sharing info about Layne. I was (WAS) going to buy the 2 books written about him. I won’t get into all that, I’m simply saying, we won’t ever have another Layne, in this lifetime…or any. I’m not saying there is an actual heaven, but there is a condition, rather. ![]() His voice was akin to the heavens opening up to allowing us mortals to hear the voice of who came to be an angel, himself. He was an artist by true definition! All artist are self-deprecating, through words and/or actions. I’m in deep with trying to get AIC in the RRHOF but mostly Layne for all of the other music he had going on, independently from AIC. I have a permanent pit in my stomach due to a lot of what went down with Layne’s passing, and to this day. Marc from Pittsburgh,paKelly from Kansas THANK YOU!!! I have been trying to spread everything you have said for a while now.
